Who Are We?
We are a Christian, non-profit, community organisation whose primary aim is to assist young people with life-controlling problems.
We do this in a variety of ways:
- 12 month residential rehabilitation programs for guys and girls
- Teen Challenge Chapel
- Emergency housing
- Counselling for all ages
- Support groups, seminars and practical aid
- Careline emergency counselling - freecall 1800 771 777
- Regional centres in Mt Barker, Mannum and Murray Bridge
Head north west on the Stuart Highway for 1100 Kilometres, just before the Northern Territory border take a sharp left onto the dirt road. Proceed for a further 200 kilometres until you hit a little town called Fregon.
This journey has been trekked by Teen Challenge about 4 times a year for the last 7 years and is now a trip that is held in high anticipation by both Teen Challenge and the Fregon community.
This relationship began after Morrie Thompson, predecessor to Graham Ross, responded to a cry from the people of Fregon. The team heads into the APY (Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara) lands and spends about a week with the people there. The team runs drug and alcohol prevention workshops in the schools, and as the relationship has grown they’ve been invited to spend more time with the community as a whole. In particular, to be a part of ‘Inma’ (literal meaning: Ceremony/Song) which is communal church that happens every night.
This relationship has grown to a depth that could not have been predicted, and 2013 we saw the gesture returned. In April, 25 people from the APY lands come to Adelaide to spend a few weeks with TC in Adelaide. This experience led to having ‘Inma’ most nights, Pitjantjatjara language classes and 7 baptisms! Executive Director, Graham Ross, gives us insight into the significance of this event. “ It’s a blessing to see that the relationship has developed to a point where they are comfortable enough to ask if they can come down to Adelaide and spend some time with us. It was like a family reunion with Jesus being the cord that drew us together.”
The Teen Challenge 3000 Club is the realisation of a vision God gave us - to partner with 3000 people with the goal of providing ongoing funds for our residential rehabilitation programs, outreach programs and telephone counseling. 3000 Club members will help bring about long-term change in the lives of many of those that the community has largely written off.
