A heart for the lost and hurting

The end of the financial year approaches, and over the next few weeks, you will likely be bombarded with requests for support from many charities and worthy causes. How is it you decide where your financial support should go? Or, because of the number of requests, do you not give to any of them?

I am writing to you today because I am convicted that Teen Challenge SA is God’s work, and the heart of Jesus is soft for people who have messed up and need a Saviour. Every day, I know that I am a sinner in need of a Saviour!

Jesus spent his time ministering to drunks, prostitutes and outcasts. People with sickness, lepers, people who didn’t believe in the main religion, thieves and criminals, people with diseases, and people thought to be unclean. Jesus had a soft heart for these people and wanted to care for them, ‘How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!’

Teen Challenge SA ministers to those people. Our doors are open to all who want – and need – their lives to be changed, free from judgement and shame. Jamie says in this month’s newsletter: ‘Following my release from prison, I was taken to the premises at Strathalbyn … My experience in the program has been transformative, as I have embraced Christianity, learned about the sacrifice of Christ and gained a deeper understanding of community and the support it offers.’

The number of people needing help is way beyond our financial capacity. Today, I ask you to give prayerful consideration in supporting Teen Challenge SA with a generous donation. No tricks, no gimmicks – just a heartfelt gift from the soul.
