A Perfect Storm
Teen Challenge SA relies heavily on donations within the church and the community. Please consider supporting us today for our winter 2022 appeal. All donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible.
Teen Challenge SA needs your urgent support now.
I am writing one of those letters I really don’t want to send, but circumstances have quickly become critical, and Teen Challenge SA needs an urgent influx of financial support now … I would like to stress that this was not our doing. We have been caught in a perfect storm. Please let me explain …
On 10 January, Teen Challenge SA was advised that the only detox facility for people suffering from addiction could go to was now closed and had been converted to an emergency COVID hospital. What was proposed to fill the gap were the options of:
> telehealth (imagine trying to access a GP on the phone when you are in a major life crisis)
> outpatient withdrawal support or home-based withdrawal support (if you have a home, of course, and at the point of being able to withdraw)
> withdrawal support through the Adelaide Clinic (usually at capacity).
This was coupled with several Teen Challenge SA clients having to quarantine (reducing income for the program) and thirdly, as you are aware, the cost of living going up. For Teen Challenge SA, meat costs rose by 100%. So that was increased demand, reduced income and rising costs all in one hit.
It is well documented that the best form of rehabilitation is residential care, which Teen Challenge SA provides. The cost of helping a client is approximately $60,000 per year.
Teen Challenge SA has been amazingly blessed and positioned to provide effective and quality faith-based support. The current financial crisis is a wall of Jericho, which, with your help, can come tumbling down. If you like, this is my shout to you from the heart.
If you have never given to Teen Challenge SA, now would be an amazing time to start! If you are a faithful supporter, please pray for Teen Challenge SA and consider what God asks of you today. You can securely donate online here. People with life-controlling problems looking for solutions need your support today.
Blessings,
Graham Ross
CEO
PS I apologise for this letter being blunt. The problem is that the need is great, and the need is now.
